SPEAKERS

Craig Carmody CEO Port of Newcastle

Craig joined Port of Newcastle as Chief Executive Officer in August 2018, building on extensive experience spanning the transport, maritime and infrastructure sectors.

From 2014 Craig was Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs at Svitzer, the towage services division of Maersk Group, where he was responsible for strategy, innovation and corporate affairs. While at Svitzer, Craig also led the regulatory affairs engagement with governments, port owners and port authorities.

Craig has held senior roles in the Australian Federal Government, serving as the Director of Policy in the Prime Minister’s Office, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister and Senior Policy Advisor to Ministers for Infrastructure and Transport, and Workplace Relations and Employment.

He served 10 years in the Australian Army, including the Special Forces, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and holds post-graduate qualifications in public policy, business management and industrial and employee relations.

Glen Williams Maritime - Union of Australia

Glen’s employment in the Maritime Industry commenced in 1988 when at 17 years of age he went to sea in the merchant navy. As a fourth-generation seafarer this was a very proud moment for him and his family. During his time at sea he worked across all sectors of the industry and was the delegate on most jobs he worked on.

In 2007 Glen was elected honorary deputy branch secretary of the MUA Southern NSW Branch.

In 2008 he became an organiser with the MUA based in Darwin. His role also included being a joint organiser in the MUA/AWU Offshore Alliance organising workers in the offshore oil and gas sector.

Following two years working in Darwin he moved to Newcastle, initially as an organiser, before being elected to his current position of Secretary of the MUA Newcastle Branch in 2011.

In 2019 Glen was elected as the Vice President of the MUA.

He is a founding and current director of Hunterlink Recovery Services an Employee Assistance Provider.
